Islamabad: PhD scholars enrolled in foreign universities on Monday demanded that government released their scholarships pending for two months and also increase the amount to $500 per month.

Addressing a press conference here, PhD scholars Fida Hussain and Fahim Shehzad Baloch said they were representing the PhD scholars enrolled in foreign universities to demand release and increase in their scholarships. They said the issue did not concern a group but the future of the country.

"Nobody can deny that progress and prosperity of the country is linked to promotion of high quality education," they said.

Under its Cultural Exchange Scholarship Programme (CESP), the Ministry for Education is sending students to foreign universities for doctorate programmes.

They said the students studying under the scholarship programme of the Higher Education Commission were given $1200 per month whereas for the same degrees only $300 was being offered under the CESP. app
