Karachi : Around 6,740 schools remained closed in Sindh province, according to advisor to chief minister (CM) Sindh on CM's Inspection, Enquiries and Implementation Team, Waqas Malik who was speaking at a press conference at his office on Wednesday.

Talking about performance of the inspection team during outgoing year, Malik said they received 52 complaints about closed schools, roads and the revenue board etc, out of which 25 inquiries were completed while others were pending. He said most of the complaints/reports pertained to development work and its poor quality.

He said mostly, they start inquiry into complaints when chief minister instructed them. However, sometimes, they also conduct inquiries on media reports. The advisor said keeping in view of poor record of the inspection team during last several years in terms of conducting inquiries; he had issued instructions to complete at least two inquiries each month. He said since last five years, hundreds of reports remained unattended. He pointed out that in year 2006, around 151 complaints were received but the same were not finalised. The CM's inspection team set up in 1978 had total 60 employees, out of which three were technical experts who help in preparing inquiries.
