130 get HEC scholarships Islamabad, July 15: The Higher Education Commission (HEC) on Tuesday awarded another 130 fully-funded foreign scholarships for higher education abroad for MS and PhD studies. The students selected for the purpose would proceed for higher studies in the universities of Austria, Germany, New Zealand, Sweden and other technologically developed countries.

The HEC has declared that these are fully funded scholarships, covering tuition fee, living expenditures, book allowance, travel and settlement allowance for students who want to seek higher education in different streams.

In this connection, an award ceremony was held here. Deputy Speaker National Assembly Faisal Karim Kundi was the chief guest on the occasion who awarded certificates to the successful scholars.

Speaking on the occasion, Kundi said that he was optimistic about policies of the HEC that students were being sent abroad to gain skills and knowledge of different disciplines.This year, 37 per cent rise has been given in the budget for higher education. Of course, it is a tremendous rise as compared to other sectors of the economy, said the deputy speaker.

He said that no country in the world could achieve progress without education. Special Assistant to Prime Minister and Incharge HEC Shahnaz Wazir Ali said that the selected scholars had successfully competed for this award and were representing all parts of Pakistan.

She advised them to demonstrate their best academic effort while pursuing higher studies and emphasized that the government was committed to promote higher education and provide the youth with excellent academic and professional opportunities.

Shahnaz appreciated the governments of Austria, Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden and other collaborating countries for extending full cooperation to human resource development projects of the HEC.
