Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif said that government is committed to eliminate disparity in education system so that equal educational opportunities could be provided to all students.

The CM was presiding over a high level meeting at CM Secretariat here on Tuesday regarding introduction of a uniform system of education in the province. The chairman of the committee on uniform system of education, MNA Ayaz Ameer also presented initial report in the meeting.

The CM said education sector is still in a shambles with literacy rate not encouraging. He said only those nations have flourished which have given top priority to the education and equipped their youth with latest knowledge.

Shahbaz appreciated the initial report of the committee and directed that the committee should evolve a comprehensive strategy by keeping all aspects of education system in view and submit its recommendations at the earliest.

He said introduction of a uniform education system is of vital importance and all stakeholders would have to be taken into confidence. He directed that seminars and discussions should beheld in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Multan, Bahawalpur as well as other major cities of the province in which teachers, students, parents, educationists and intellectuals should be invited and recommendations should be evolved in the light of their proposals. He directed Secretary Higher Education to evolve and present a comprehensive programme in this regard as soon as possible. The participants of the meeting presented their proposals and suggestions regarding uniform system of education.
