SSC Practical Exams Begin Tomorrow
Karachi, July 01: The Board of Secondary Education Karachi (BSEK) on Tuesday asked all candidates who could not appear in the SSC part I and II annual practical examinations-2009 conducted till June 22, to appear in the practical exams being held from July 2 to July 8.
The candidates have been directed to contact the room No.47-B of the board office to collect the programme of their practical exams immediately.

Karachi, June 22: The current situation in Pakistan can be summarised in a few words: chaos, rulers with no vision, and a hapless, resentful nation. The universities of Karachi are no different, as a senior, recipient of 'Pride of Performance' teacher put it: "We are part of society… why do you people (journalists) expect us to be different?"
Vice-chancellors (VC) of public-sector universities are adamant about not allowing the revival of student unions in universities. Initially, they were vague about the whole thing, dodging questions pertaining to it. However, their real intent came out in the open when details of a meeting of VCs from Sindh were leaked to the media. According to reports, it was decided that the revival of student unions was 'not feasible' as it will cause more violence in the universities. This logic seems dubious because it has been proven that more incidents of violence were recorded after the unions were banned in 1984.
However, a silver lining in this regard seems to be the financial aid that higher education institutes may receive. The World Bank is considering giving $100 million to the Higher Education Commission (HEC) for students who have either gone abroad or are waiting for funds (scholarship funds) before they enrol at educational institutes of their choice. The federal government is also taking some steps pertaining to this, including monetary injection for ailing universities. Let us hope that the students will get some relief from all this.
Meanwhile, the HEC recently published an advertisement in newspapers, warning students and parents not to seek admission in a university that was given a charter in Azad Kashmir but set up campuses in various parts of the country. It is good to know that the HEC is taking action against those who have commercialised education. This, however, is not enough. What about the degree-awarding universities that are housed inside 400- to 600-square-yard bungalows?
A recent visit to a university in the city was an eye-opener. An event was organised in a large room to pay homage to freedom fighter Chaudhry Khaliq Uz Zaman. Sadly, the students there were acting worse than schoolchildren. In fact, they continued to shout and make catcalls despite warnings issued by their teachers, showing that they had little respect for the latter. Indeed, the entire event was an eyesore and painful to say the least. KARACHI: It has become a routine matter for 36-year-old Shazia to travel from Leemon Gabol Goth in Gulshan-e-Iqbal to the PPP central secretariat, hoping that someone there will offer her assistance; however, it seems like every time she makes a visit, she has to start planning for the next one. 
Bilawal, Bakhtawar and Asifa Zardari, the children of Asif Ali Zardari and Benazir Bhutto, are likely to start their political career with the People’s Students Federation and the PPP women’s wing,
Sources in the Pakistan People’s Party told Daily Times on Saturday that Mr Zardari told a delegates from the PSF and the Ladies’ Wing at Bilawal House this week that he wanted to see his children become active in politics.
The three children, who at present study in Dubai where Ms Bhutto lives in self-exile, will not be able to play an active role in politics until the completion of their education, the sources said.
However, they will remain in contact with seniors in the students’ and women’s wings of the PPP for political training.
“Mr Zardari said he wanted Bakhtawar and Asifa to learn from the seniors in the Ladies’ Wing,” said MNA Nafisa Raja, who is president of the organisation’s Karachi chapter.
Mr Zardari, who son of former MNA Hakim Ali Zardari, also has other members of his family in politics. One of his sisters, Faryal Talpur, is nazim of his home district of Nawabshah and another, Dr Azra Pechuho, is MNA from there.
Sources in the PPP said that the announcement of Bakhtawar and Asifa joining the Ladies Wing could be made at the organisation’s next convention.
Mr Zardari reportedly hinted at having Bilawal join the PSF when an official of the Sindh People’s Students Federation complained that the PPP leaders do not allow their sons to join the party’s students wing.
Earlier, Adviser to Sindh Chief Minister Rashid Rabbani spoke at a condolence meeting held at the People’s Secretariat and played down the issue of unemployment. He said unemployment and joblessness has lesser importance as compared to the issue of terrorism. The unemployed youths belonging to People’s Students Federation and Sindh People’s Youth, however, insisted that their demands should be met and said that they were not satisfied with the government’s employment policy. PPP members and officials observed the 5th death anniversary of Suharwardy and offered their prayers for him. They opined that they will follow Suhrawardy’s footsteps and added that though he faced hardships, he never bowed down to the dictatorial regimes. Meanwhile, Sindh CM Qaim Ali Shah could not attend the death anniversary programme because the relevant authorities had not issued security clearance for his arrival at the scene. Deputy speaker Sindh Assembly Shehla Raza, Provincial Adviser Sharmila Farooqui, Najma Saeed Chawla, Waqar Mehdi, Rafiq Engineer, Ismatullah Khan, N D Khan, Suhail Abedi, Sardar Khan, Anwar Lal Deen and many other PPP officials attended the condolence meeting.
